Georgia Bulldogs snare four-star defensive lineman Chris Mayes

6-foot-4, 290-pound Chris Mayes of Spalding (Griffin, Ga.) has committed to the Bulldogs for the Class of 2011, ESPN's Bill Hodge reports.

The defensive tackle was also offered by Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Louisville, Maryland, Memphis, Miami-Florida, Michigan State and Oklahoma State.

He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "It's the in-state school; it's not far from home so it will be easy for my family to come see me play; and it?s the school I grew up pulling for. Plus they have a great coaching staff."

ESPN's Craig Haubert said of the news, "Georgia landed a good addition to their 2011 class with a commitment from Mayes. The in-state prospect Mayes is not just a good pick-up because he displays good ability and upside, but also because he is a good fit for the Georgia defense as they move to a 3-4."

"He is a good sized kid who offers some versatility in how he can be used in the three-man front. He will likely develop into a nose and fit best there, but could be a player that Georgia steers to the end position if needed. He needs to keep developing his technique, but can be a tough and stout defender. Mayes is a pick-up that new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has to feel good about."

Georgia now has 16 pledges.
