This is the right place to ask this question, although I'm not the right person to answer. Several guys on here are very knowlegable.
I've been planning to buy a gun or two for months, but I haven't gotten around to it. I'll do it by year end for sure. |

Coondawg and OMG are the best ones to ask about that.

what are you going to do with it?
If you just want something for plinking cans then get a 22 pistol. I have S&W 22A which is a target pistol and I love it. Very accurate. inexpensive and cheap on ammo. My Ruger SR9 is more of a protection pistol. Holds 17 rounds. I also have an old piece of shit 38 Special that I don't shoot much. I plan on buying a Ruger LCP which is a small 380 that will fit in my pocket if needed. There are all kinds of handguns out there. I would stay with a reputable name if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

I just got a Browning Buckmark .22 w/fibre optic front sight which is fun to shoot. Probably a good start for a beginner. You should try and shoot some friends
guns to see what you like but a revolver is probably best for a newbie in higher calibers.
I'm going to get one of those Ruger .380s also. On sale down the street for $275 I believe. |

I've got a Ruger .380 and I really like it. And those guys are right. A good .22 is a lot of fun for just fucking around with. And you save a ton of
money on ammo.

Hey guys what do you think about the Ruger LCP .380 for my wife? I have been looking to get her something small to carry. I carry a .40 S&W, and
something like that is too big for her to handle.

Hey jrock if you are just looking for something fun to shoot that isn't expensive, I would go with a .22. The ammo is super cheap and the are really fun
to shoot.

I wouldn't mind something that would be decent for protection as well
