Richt not planning to demote DC
Story Highlights
Mark Richt is not planning on demoting Georgia's defensive coordinator
Richt says his friendship with Willie Martinez has not clouded his judgment
The Bulldogs rank last in the SEC, allowing 30.7 points per game on average
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Georgia coach Mark Richt insists his longtime friendship with Willie Martinez hasn't clouded his ability to assess the job performance of the Bulldogs' embattled defensive coordinator.
Last week's 45-19 loss at Tennessee marked the eighth time in 15 games that Georgia has allowed 37 or more points. Richt says he has no immediate plans to demote Martinez.
Richt told The Associated Press Tuesday that "whether a guy is your friend or not, they have taken on a certain responsibility ... where they know they can be criticized and they know they've got to do their job regardless of who the boss is."
Entering this weekend's game at Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs rank last in the Southeastern Conference allowing an average of 30.7 points.
