what are you going to do with it?

If you just want something for plinking cans then get a 22 pistol. I have S&W 22A which is a target pistol and I love it. Very accurate. inexpensive
    and cheap on ammo.

Well, a .22 doesn't have the stopping power of the others, but I still wouldn't want somebody shooting at me with one!

I just got a Browning Buckmark .22 w/fibre optic front sight which is fun to shoot. Probably a good start for a beginner. You should try and shoot some friends
guns to see what you like but a revolver is probably best for a newbie in higher calibers.

I'm going to get one of those Ruger .380s also. On sale down the street for $275 I believe.
