Just before lights out Friday night in the team hotel, Tennessee's coaches and players talked about how much they believed in each other and how lucky they were to have a chance to play a football game together the next morning.

"Man, it was awesome," cornerback Art Evans said. "It was a lot different than any meeting or speaker we've had. It could bring tears to your eyes."

Only a few hours later, it was lights out for Georgia inside Neyland Stadium.

The Vols took control and kept it in a 45-19 romp over Georgia before 103,261 fans to claim their first SEC victory of the season and the first of head coach Lane Kiffin's tenure. More than that, though, the Vols (3-3, 1-2 SEC) displayed confidence in each other on the field.

I just overheard one of my co workers here say that UT will be able to hang with Bama, and that Bama's defense wasn't that good. I LOL'd at him and just shook my head. UT fans are now thinking they are untouchable. Granted, we did get a glimpse of what UT will be about in a season or two after they have all of "their" recruits playing.

I never liked Richt's play calling either. Too conservative and vanilla. Bobo has continued that trend. It's like that on both offense and defense! We are so worried about making a mistake and giving up a big play, that we have completely lost our aggression! What's the old saying....something like it's ok to fail while daring greatly. Well we are playing scared and still failing!

I'm not in favor of Richt calling the plays. Remember how our offense struggled when he was calling the plays before? Luckily we had Van Gorder back then, and the defense saved our asses over and over.

I'm not saying that Richt has to go just yet. But we need some serious shaking up of his coaching staff. Willie should've been caned after last year....hell, he never should've been named the DC in the 1st place when Van Gorder left. At a minimum, Bobo and Martinez need to go. And if Richt can't see this, or is unwilling to make the changes, then Richt does need to go. Hell, I'm not sure I'd keep anybody off his current staff except maybe Lily and Garner, and I wouldn't let Garner pull anymore of that bullshit like he has in the past to get more money. Garner's a damn good recruiter, but he ain't the only good recruiter in the world.

I think you're looking at a consistency in play issue, more than just a decline. There's always been some question about consistency in play and coaching, always some element of a learning curve, but you're right....

Somehow they got the ship righted and went on to blow out Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. The end of that season made everybody forget about the beginning. Then came all the hype and a preseason number 1 ranking. We proceeded to play lifeless and flat the whole season and lose three games, 2 of them blowouts. Now this year. Something is wrong with this program!! If it hadnt been for that surge at the end of the season two years ago, CMR would probably already be gone!

I agree. No hotseat for Mark Richt.

What I can't believe is how quickly we went through that decline. We lost two major contributors to the NFL after last season, and we end up in the toilet. I have a hard time believing that they were the only talent on the team. Teams are successful with mediocre talent all of the time, but this decline in performance is perplexing. I think it points back to the Coordinators, but I guess we'll just all have to wait and see.

I watch UGA Football now and it reminds me of what else but an SEC Team. Guys remember Florida in 2007, they LOST 3 SEC games. Remember LSU lost 5 last year. Remember in 2004 thru ? when all we would hear is how great Southern Cal is and how they can beat some pro teams? Every GREAT program goes through regression, its just a fact of football. The biggest question is, can you as a fan be strong during this hard time. I agree with the masses that Willie needs to go, but to phathom that CMR is on a hot seat would be ludacrist.

I think CMR will get this ship righted but it wont be overnight. Look at SO Cal. they have regressed to the point where Stanford is picked to win the PAC 10 this year, and SO CAL is the ONLY powerhouse in that conference. I bleed red and black as does my whole family and I be damned if I will let anyone talk smack about my program no matter how in shambles it...
